VLC Christmas celebrate icon

Last night while I's watching a movie "Misery"on my computer, I've found something on the screen.
If you familiar with VLC player, you should try open it during this week (or month).

Yes, the icon is changed!
I think this is the only application icon that celebrate Christmas.
Orange cone with Santa hat? that's cute

Fallout 3: Failed V.A.T.S. Attempt on George Bush

Did Ohio mention this in the last JD animation class?
I would like to post it different and game's way , Fallout 3's way :)
That's poor shot anyway XD

Fallout 3: Failed V.A.T.S. Attempt on George Bush

At least, 28 movies from game are on the line.

That's a lot!
Why productions don't see that the movie from game is always suck.
The only movie from game that I like is Silent Hill recently.

Yeah yeah I used to like Mortal Combat the first one a lot but for the forth one in the line, I'm not sure.
Here's the list

Cold Fear (2008)
Fear Effect (2008)

Area 51 (2009)
Castlevania (2009)
Clock Tower (2009)
Halo (2009)
Kane & Lynch (2009)
The Legend of Spyro (2009)
Metal Gear Solid (2009)
Onimusha (2009)
Sabotage 1943 (2009)
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)
Spy Hunter (2009)
The Suffering (2009)
Tekken (2009
Warcraft (2009)/World of Warcraft (2011)

Bioshock (2010)
Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (2010)
Driver (2010)
Earthworm Jim (2010)
Gears of War (2010)
God of War (2010)
Joust (2010)
King of Fighters (2010)
Mortal Kombat (2010)
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)
Resident Evil 4 (2010)
Splinter Cell (2010)

more detail here

Bioshock and Gears of war are interesting choice because their stories are pretty good.

Why no one want to make a Warhammer 40K the movie. I think it can be the epic.

See this real terminator, isn't that awesome?

Maybe you've already finished Fallout 3 or still playing it. Yes it's really great game.
While surving the internet about this game, I came across this site about Nuclear Fallout FAQ. It's an intentional, very serious research. So if you feel not enough about Fallout 3 just go to this site.

Madagascar 2 beat Wall.E for real?

Today in the lab. I heard people said Madagascar 2 actually beats Wall.E for the opening box office. So I do some research about that.

Dude, you're right but that's really close. For the opening gross, Madagascar 2 gets $63,106,589 and Wall.E is $63,087,526. If ticket is $10 so that's just around 2000 people. Really really close!

But hey! we should wait and see the total box office again right?

Left 4 Dead SF commercial campaign

Game commercial is not just about a paper in a magazine anymore as we all know. It becomes a huge maket strategy and when a block buster game like GTA IV came out a couple months ago, we've seen its posters everywhere, on a bus, public toilet, huge billboard or even on buildings. And it comes again for Left 4 Dead. I think Valve put alot of money for the commercial this time. Look at the subway station! that's awesome.

Ong Bak2 Tony Jaa is back!

I really want to see this movie. Almost every Thai people love Tony Jaa. Ong Bak 2 is almost cancled because Tony Jaa (He's a director for this movie himself.) had his financial and life problems. He even disappear from his crew for a little while. But finally this movie is done.

Ong Bak 2 is not a sequel from the first movie. Tony Jaa as 'Tian', whoes family is slain by a King's traitor. He escapes and adopted by a master thief who teach him martial arts. The story is about revenge and combine martial arts with Thai traditional art called "Koon".

Ong Bak 2 will be in the theatre on December 4th.
I really want to see !

The Tale of Despereaux

I hope this animation feature will not be out off focus because of Bolt and Madagasca 2.

It seems like Universal Animation Studio puts down their Barbie story and step up their game for the feature.

'Tiny and graced with oversized ears, Despereaux was born too big for his little world. Refusing to live his life cowering, he befriends a Princess named Pea and learns to read (rather than eat) books -- reveling in stories of knights, dragons and fair maidens. Banished from Mouseworld for being more man than mouse, Despereaux is rescued by another outcast, Roscuro, who also wants to hear the tales. But when the Princess dismisses Roscuro's friendship, he becomes the ultimate rat and plots revenge with fellow outsider Mig. After Pea is kidnapped, Despereaux discovers he is the only one who can rescue her...and that even the tiniest mouse can find the courage of a knight in shining armor.'

Emma Watson will give a sound for Pricess Pea (Is she that old already? oh yes! she's already 18!!)
and Matthew Broderick will be Despereaux. (like Lion King's Simba and Bee Movie? yes that's him.)

In theatre December 19. Good one for celebrate Chrismas.

Transformers 2 Detail

Transformers 2: The Revenge of the Fallen
The story is two years after the first movie. The story is followed it's name. The Fallen is a name of one of the thirteen 'good guy' robot but he's falled to the darkness. Everyone forgot his name so his name becames 'The Fallen' and he comes to the earth to hunt the autobots.

Exept The Fallen, They will be several new characters.
ARCEE
new member of the autobot. From the look and color, I guess this one is a female type robot who can transform to be a motocycle.

SOUNDWAVE
Decepticons have their new crew as well. This one is Soundwave who can transform to be a radio recorder. He is one of the most famous Transformer. So keep an eye on him.

Did you cry when 'Jazz' died and the end of the first movie?
If so, be happy because he will be back in this second movie.

Sound good huh?
And when it will be in theatres you ask?
I say, June 26 2009 .

Portfolio Tips

Very good tip to create portfolio.

Link
http://www.moonapples.com/art_portfolio_tips/

Portfolio Presentation (physical media)

Discs:
I get into disagreements with other art directors about which are better- DVD movies or CDs (data discs). I prefer data discs, but I have heard others prefer DVDs. My advice is to include both if possible.

CDs (Data Discs) : I prefer CD data format because it is the easier to use in how my company operates. When we receive portfolios, we share them with many people to provide feedback. The easiest way to share portfolios is to just copy them to our network and ask people to send feedback via email. Imagery can also be much higher-res than what can be put on a DVD movie. Also, we will often forward images around via email to people to quickly show them an applicant’s work.

DVD Movies : I don’t like DVDs because:

1. They are low-res (640 x480). Non-animating work should be viewed higher than this.
2. They are hard to share (one copy) with a group of people, and easy to get lost once shared.
3. Viewer has less control to understand content of images (moves fast; is blurry).
4. DVDs often don’t work on many systems- some work well on PCs, some work well on home entertainment systems, different formats like DVD-R , DVD + R, etc …

That said, I have heard many HR reps say they prefer DVDs. So my only recommendation is if you really want to send a DVD, include a data disc CD as well and make everyone happy. Including an CD with a DVD is a relatively cheap investment.

VHS Movies : VHS is dead. Most people don’t have a VCR in their office, so they can’t view your portfolio.

Case:
There should be a case to cover the discs (DVD cases are good). This case should also be able to hold a printed resume inside it – separately attached resumes can get lost. If you have some small printed images that fit inside the case (a mini-printed portfolio) that can often tell a lot about an artist as well, before they can even get to a computer.

Cover:
The cover of the disc should have all of your contact information. The front and back cover should also have some simple clean images of your best work- a few really impressive images will get your work fast-tracked through the hiring system while a cover with just your name (or nothing) get sorted a low priority. I can’t stress enough how important this cover can be- it is really your first and sometimes only impression.

While many of us are fans of super simple minimal design (like just small text) on a cover, good looking relevant imagery really does sell your work, and gets it a priority.

CD/ DVD Label
Again this should have all of your contact information. It sounds silly, but many people put a disc with no label in their case, and often cases and discs get separated. You don’t need a proper stickler label, but at least hand writing saying your name + info. Again a good image behind the label is also helpful incase the disc and case get separated- people will see the disc and associate it to the work.

Art Disciplines:

Animator:

For some reason I have not figured out, almost everyone wants to be an animator. Not sure if this is odd nudging from schools (often Computer Graphics are still called Animation Departments) or just some deep rooted desire to express human-like locomotion.

It is important for animators to be able to demonstrate they understand weight, physics, gravity, timing, impact, and nailing the performance, as well interesting but realistic move sets. Basic walk, run, and idle cycles are a must for showing off skills. A scene of two characters interacting is also extremely helpful.

My company, as with most large videogame companies, is more interested in realistic human motion as opposed to a highly exaggerated cartoony ‘squash and stretch’ style. Consumers mostly purchase those kinds of games, so that is what we make and need our artists skilled in. Just as a note, there aren’t nearly enough jobs for all the cartoony reels in the world- it is probably the most common portfolio we get.

Many profession game companies use motion capture as a main step for creating their animations, and then animators clean up the files (usually in MotionBuilder, the best software for editing motion capture). Animation skill is still extremely important in working with motion capture data. Any experience you can get working with motion capture data and MotionBuilder would be a huge plus to your resume.

Any “technical” knowledge is also preferred- understating character tessellation for deformation, character rigging, etc. The ability to grasp how animations would be used in the game (how they blend into each other) are all great skills to demonstrate if you feel comfortable in those areas.

A great reference for animators is the 10 Second Club. They have forums where people critique animation, and they even have rigged models to animate to. This is invaluable because great animation can look bad on poorly rigged and constructed characters. For most game jobs, it is recommend to animate on the more realistically proportioned reference models they have.

Animator Recommended Content format:
Animations have to be presented in video files. Ideally this information would be on a CD-ROM or website.

Content Recommendations:
· Animation cycles: walk, run, idle (waiting) etc.
· Single playing animations- Falling down and picking self up, jumping, opening a door.
· Two person interactions (a tackler, a hug, a robust dialog, etc)
· Facial animation information coming soon- highly recommend Jason Osipa’s “Stop Staring” book.

NORA

Damn! because I wanted to encode this movie file, it made my windows broke.

So that mean this Sci-Fi animation (motion capture) is worth to see?

Yeah the production wise, it's really cool sci-fi theme and story. Rendering, Compositing is cool but animation wise it's crappy (mo-cap :))

Amy Engles‘ short film, NORA, deals with mankind‘s attempts to keep its service androids, also known as NORAs, in check and in ignorance. If a NORA begins to display undesirable qualities such as independent thought, it is ‘chosen‘ to take part in a mission to search a planet for a liveable terrain and atmosphere.

Up ! Next Pixar movie

I think many of you will wonder what is the next Pixar movie?
The answer is Up! The adventure of the old man. This's interesting that Up is the second Pixar movie that the main character is human after the huge successed Incredible.
The first artwork is up and also first teaser.

The Time Machine (2002)

2:43
I've just seen the Time Machine (2002) again for my class. It has one scene when Alexander travels to the future and ! that's alot of bike. If in the future everyone ride a bike like this. Is that so cool? Look at the lock of the bike that need the ID to swip open. I think I like this scene in the movie the most (include the Museum after this scene.) other than that it's quite boring when Alex goes to the far future.

24 Hour Bloodline

AAU first real game project and only group project in the school right now (Damn!!)
It's Sci-fi Adventure game (I'm not sure yet.) with Isomatric and 2D background.

The lady who came in to my class said the battle system will be kind a like Final Fantasy Tactic.

So keep in touch.
Here's the game's official site.

Dead Space

As you know, Dead space is coming out. It's a sci-fi horror shooting game which remind me of Doom 3. You are the only survivor on the turn-out-hell spacecraft. Crap! this should be nice.

Compare Deadspace with Doom 3

Dead Space

Doom 3

Which one is better?
